I've only listened to Vol. 1 once all the way through, but it was a total disappointment to me. Just awful and boring. I love every note of the second disc, and consider it to be some of StS's best work to date. Vol. 3 isn't their most exciting album, but it redeems the first disc's failure with its consistency. Overall, hit and miss; however, the great majority of the two-hour work is thoroughly enjoyable.

I'm still waiting for them to deliver another "Out of this Gloomy Light," though . . .

This is really good, haven't listened to the whole funeral doom disc yet though.

Disk 2 would be pretty great if the vox weren't ballsack. Disk 3 is good for what it is but honestly some quirks in the songwriting and how the low end absolutely buries the melodies present making it quite a bit exhausting to listen to.

First disk without question is poop dick

I think I actually liked the 1st disc best, but all were pretty good. Definitely a long listen, you have to be in the mood to take it in all at once

I like the first disc the best. The music is great, the clean vocals are bad. The music on the 2nd disc is also great, but the vocals are even worse.

Well the dude used to be a great clean vocalist back on TMNC or Hope. This time around the vox are a little bit weaker, agreed

Well the production is unpolished, which is rather uncharacteristic of the band, but I don't see much wrong with the compositions themselves

Agreed about the clean vox. Much better on Hope and The Morning Never Came (see the chorus of "Silence of the Womb"), here he has almost no range and zero emotion.

Second disc is off the hinge. Only jammed the whole thing once, but I loved it. I can see myself bumping thiss higher once I get my bearings on it all.

Lol I wonder if there is anyone out there dedicated enough to cut this down into a single album (or at least a 90 minute or so double album)

This took some time to grow on me (probably because of the immense length). Disc 2 is a pretty good showcase of how to use simple minor chords/scale in an effective way to achieve a beautiful melancholic sound with melodies that will stay anchored deep within your head
