They haven't released a really awesome record since GA:IBSIV.

I may check this out but I don't have high hopes.

Eh this is far from horrible but far from being anything particularly great as well.

I'm sooooo hesitant to check this out. I only heard the singles once and I wasn't really digging it. I miss epic C&C.

Atlas is a 5/5 track, Colors is great too, but most of this is pretty middling...textbook 3/5.

Even Coheed's filler material up to now has usually had some redeeming catchiness to it.

3-4 of the tracks here don't even have that. The great stuff is great, but some of this really sounds like them hitting bottom.

Agreed porcupine.

My main beef with this is the mixing. I feel like there's a lot of beauty here that they failed to bring out.

I agree Sowing. The best aspect of Coheed to me are the riffs and I feel like they're being buried in the mix here. Kind of reminds me of YOTBR. I thought Afterman had a good balance of them wanting the wall of sound cinematic thing as well as the guitars being prevalent.

call me a fanboy but idk about the Amory Wars being cheesy. Parts of it are certainly overdramatic and hopelessly romantic, but I feel like those are counter-balanced by some great black humour and straight up brutal stuff. Like, Josephine getting raped and then killed by her father isn't exactly something you'd find in your average cheesy sci-fi film is it

Yeah I thought the Amory Wars was a great story. I mean it's cheesy in the way that anything sci-fi or fantasy is cheesy but Claudio made it a way that was relatable so it didn't seem so out of left field.

I'm enjoying a good chunk of this album but recently I've really been digging "Peace to the Mountain".

It's ok. A lot of it is ok. But the problem is that so very little feels special or groundbreaking for the band.
