because everyone thought this would be a black metal album based on the album art, and the fact that Ihsahn composed the first track.

Matt was always a shitty screamer. Next album get Corey to do all screams, Matt sing his balls off and bring back the longer/techier songs

Corey really has no range if you heard him live. He's boring and can't do much. At least for Matt, I enjoyed some of the low grunts and pig squeals he did on Shogun but by far Matt is way better than Corey.

I'm not saying Corey is better either but he has no clean vocals to blow out.

Ascendancy was their best IMO. However, some of the albums post-Crusade have positive elements to them (In Waves has some cool songs on it, some are really heavy too).

this might be one of my least favorite bands out there. Not a thing I enjoyed from them.

Anyone else think that perhaps on this record they decided to ditch the Metallica influence in favour of a more Iron Maiden sound? Vocally at least. I actually rather like this album, it's quite old school and nostalgic sounding coming from someone who has never been the biggest Trivium fan and thinks most of their stuff has thus far been overrated, not helped by the media bigging them up so much when they first broke on the scene as being some sort of successor to Metallica which was always going to be a very tall order!

This is more Black Sabbath and Dio than Iron Maiden for me

The Darkness of my Mind (the second bonus track) is basically the best thing on here. No idea why this band continues to release their best material as bonus tracks.
