great record but too bad they will end up playing 60+ minutes of this live and then the usual 5
This haha, but give them some credit. I think bands should put as much effort as possible into indicating they are relevant by showing that they, at least, believe their new stuff is up to par. And there's no better way to do this by showing that they are more than comfortable to bust out some of their newer stuff whilst on tour, and not just rely on their golden oldies.

Better than playing the same setlist again and again

too many golden oldies that they haven't touched in many years

and if you saw the AMOLAD tour, you know what I mean......the crowd wasn't very pleased until the final half hour
with all that, I agree with you guys that the bands should support their modern material as well, but to a certain extent. 30 minutes of this would do just fine.
they are a lock to open their live show with the opener on here.....book it

Yeah it's like a modern version of Moonchild. Plus the dynamics created from the "good day my name is Necropolis" part would be pretty great in a live setting.

if we're able to pick out 30 minutes for the live show, coupled with the fact that bruce already said empire will not be played live, i'd go with eternity, red and black, and the title track

Excellent read Irving.
Heard the album twice on the fly, I liked what I've heard, need to listen more carefully though.

Im liking this album, not loving it, something isn't quite sitting right for me, but I do like it a lot. The good, is that there are many many retro 80's sounds in this album, I often hear a section that sounds so powerslave or thereabouts, and for me this is a good thing, the nostalgic vibe. I really feel like if they kept going down powerslave style instead of somewhere in time this album could of been it. (Somewhere in time is my favourite maiden album however!!)
Some sections however are sung with Bruce at the top of his register (The Great Unknown comes to mind) and whilst he nails it, I sort of feel uncomfortable with it, knowing its sort of at the zenith of the range. But I think that's just me.
Anyone have thoughts on how opening of shadow of the valley is so close to wasted years riff. Sort of strange.. but decent song that one.
Ive given this the usual 5-7 listens before I make any judgement, but I think this one might take a little longer than normal for me to determine my true thoughts on it

Well, when you do come up with a final opinion cageofman, why don't you write a review about it and tell us what you think? =)
I also note that we are yet to have a negative review for this particular record (not saying you need to write a negative one or that the album deserves it, but it's always interesting to hear different opinions and thoughts).

It seems almost obligatory for them to open the shows on their tour for this with If Eternity Should Fail.
