Still gonna have to disagree with the hivemind here and say their first album was better, I can't find a standout track on here and overall it just strikes me as a little dull.

The first album has a higher avg so the "hivemind" seems to be on your side

Good point I didn't notice that.

It won't sell anywhere near as well as its predecessor, but Of Monsters & Men's 2nd LP 'Beneath the Skin' is almost as good. Refining their sound, rather than reinventing it, the Icelandic quintet are not so joyous this time around, showing a lot of restraint (relatively speaking). The lush instrumental build-ups, tribal rhythms & sweet boy/girl vocal dynamic all return, while the lyrics range from deeply contemplative to absolute nonsense! It gets a bit repetitive as it progresses, but there are ultimately enough involving hooks to keep most listeners interested throughout. Recommended Tracks: Wolves Without Teeth, Crystals, Hunger & Empire.

Something about this is mysteriously beautiful. I think the larger vocal role taken on by Nanna helped this tremendously.

I'd agree with that.

I still rate their debut better, but for the good of their longevity, they had to tone it down a little, and they have done so successfully here.

i actually think that i like ragnars voice a bit more. i think the reason that this a bit better is my head is an animal is, besides the fact that are less la's and oh's, is that this is more consistent. no weak track here

Finally got around to this. First full listen it's pleasant but not too much stands out, but maybe it'll grow. It definitely has the feel of a grower.

This has some really great tracks (Crystals, Hunger, Organs, and to a lesser extent, Slow Life and Thousand Eyes), and the rest are solid. Overall a nice listen but some parts are annoying (Ragnar's vocals on Human...ugh) and the lyrics often suggest depth without actually conveying much. I don't expect this band to have much longevity beyond this, but hey a couple good albums is nothing to gripe too much about.

Wasn't expecting much from this, but it actually held up well.

This is defs a slow burner though, whereas the first one is instantly enjoyable. Slow burners tend to win out for me.

This is pretty bland imo, but Thousand Eyes is great. The end almost reminds me of Godspeed lmao
