I know what you mean - like the piano section of Death With Dignity. I'm a fan of the album from start to finish though. Nothing beats the emotion of Fourth of July. Not to overstate it, but that song is one of the best things I've heard in a while. The words just rip me up inside.

Yeah I'll probably give it another listen soon so I can pay more attention to the lyrics than get swept up in all the comfy instrumentation.

I can't cry for anything, but when the meaning of all this clicked - during Fourth of July - I thought about it being my mom and my eyes got a little less dry for like half a second

My two favourite Buckethead albums, Colma and Pike 13, are the only pieces of music responsible for making me tear up thus far. Although it's very easy for something as simple as a melody to move me on an emotional level. I guess with those two albums it's the background context that gets under my skin and makes me apply the same thoughts and feelings to my parents.

Relistened. Even better.

The imagery he talks about on this is pretty fucking out there, especially in the opener and The Only Thing. And when the ambience kicks in in Fourth of July, I was pretty much holding my head in my hands.

I can see myself maybe giving this to my stepmum one of these days.

Have to agree, and I'm really not that concerned with lyrics a lot of the time. This is an absolute knockout though.

Alright, I'm 5'in this. If it changes later it changes but this is the best lo-fi record I've heard since Sparklehorse's It's A Wonderful Life.

Finally rated. Not a 5.0 because of All Of Me Wants All Of You, which, to me, is kind of just a decent song. Not a fan of the stair-step-y melody in it and the masturbation line feels a bit too forced, like "Oooo he's being soooo raw, man."

Every other song lands somewhere on the spectrum between "This is a great song" and "...damn..."

if Fourth of July wasn't the best Sufjan song ever, All of Me Wants All of You would be the best on here.

Jacy babe; you'd probably love Seven Swans which is very similar to this, otherwise his music doesn't really sound anything alike and it's impossible to know if you'd dig based on this. But the Age of Adz seems like the sort of ~unique~ thing you would dig

@Jac - yes, and try Seven Swans if you like this style. All his albums are good though.
