this is only kinda black metal

oltna proving my point. this is barely a schoolboy album

then its probably a 4 or a 4.5..

To my ears, this is totally death metal but it doesn't really matter to me.
It's like the debate around Deathspell Omega and Deafheaven and whether or not they're black metal. In each case, they all clearly bear the influence of black metal in different ways and to varying degrees.

Never really cared much for Leviathan but this album fixed that.

That riff in middle of the first minute of Within Thrall is still the best thing ever

Personally I feel 2-3 of the songs give off more of a death metal vibe than black metal (although even those songs have some black metal stylings in then) and the rest of the release is way more on the black metal side. As a whole this is a black metal album with some death metal moments to me.
