yeah i wish bands would put out shorter albums nowadays. stuff thats like like 2 hours long doesnt have a lot of replay value unless its classic shit like the lamb

Elton John? No, it sounds nothing like that. Not even on the same hemisphere.

I wish the orchestra was used less. It seems out of place at times on here.

I agree. I think the orchestra overpowers the rest of the music in certain parts as well.

I like your review. Listened to this once and kinda forgot about it, but I've been spinning it the past couple days and it's growing on me more and more. The 3 prior albums had the same effect, where nothing really stuck at first but got better with each listen.

With very, very good headphones/speakers, the orchestrated sections (as well as the rest of the album) sound absolutely magnificent. On run-of-the-mill sound systems, I agree, it can be a bit much at times.

Dense album. It took me a few listens to get into it, but now I can't stop listening to this album. It has a dark, powerful grandiose and majestic atmosphere. I'm glad they did a sequel to Imaginations from the Other Side since it is one of my favorite BG albums. So far The Throne, The Holy Grail, Prophecies, The Ninth Wave, and Twilight of the Gods are my favorites. No big stand outs like Sacred Worlds and nothing as catchy as Tanelorn or Valkyries from the last album, but the songs are consistently good and powerful as ever. Not one of the best BG albums but all of their albums are good and this one doesn't dissapoint.

The Throne rules. Miracle Machine, eh? Can't say i spend enough time with BG ballads post Nightfall. I really like Prophecies, it has some of my favorite lead bits on the album from 2:45 - 3:37. so much wah.

The Holy Grail, The Throne, and Miracle Machine are probably the 3 strongest.
And yeah, Nightfall trumps all. Easily the best ballad they have ever released.

Unusual starting point though Toon. Their first few albums is where it's really at.
