Check Varkoor and Dracula Vampira from the split and Flame of the Forest, The Footsteps​ of Spring, and Stachys Olympica for the Hammer of Botany EP if you're feeling like digging more.
The vocal delivery and the mixing has been improving overall quality of his releases. Drums always rule and he's been getting more creative with some of the dulcimer leads.

the mixing seems to make this sound a little... weak, i think? like it lacks oomph, if that makes sense
will probably try more of this guy once school lets go of its grip on me, lol. in theory this is exactly my kind of stuff

I get what you mean. The stuff before this was much more abrasive and he was able to make this more cohesive. It all melts together a bit, but that's what I like about it.
Let me know how you feel about the newer stuff when you get around to it. He's supposed to have a new LP this year.
