every genre has its own sound which might make them seem a bit samey if you're not listening carefully or are uneducated with it but dude you're so wrong

ive been playing guitar for almost 20 years im not wrong
punk music is GENERALLY not complex in instrumentation and is more about the energy than technicality
ramones is less technical than average but its a general trend
yes 4 power chords per song and a mini riff solo or some shit isnt the all-being formulae for punk music or anything but its p common especially when the genre was in its infancy i.e. during the ramones heyday

Crimson, if they all sound Like Blitzkrieg bop you might want to try listening, because I do not think any other Ramones songs sound anything like it.
The whole Idea of "punk" it to do as much with 3 chords as humanly possible, this is not Prog rock dude, it has more to due with attitude and energy than chord changes, in this respect,The Ramones are up there with anybody.
Crimson like I said before Listen to Too Tough Too Die, I feel there best album musically

@chuck yeah that was part of the ideology back in the 70s but punk is such a broad genre you just simply can't make generalizations like that. it certainly can't be denied that energy is the driving force behind punk but the music can be extremely technical and varied at the same time

yeah i guess i could have said that in punks origins it was among other things a backlash to what some perceived as rock music becoming overdone overtechnical overproduced (anti prog basically) but the genre evolved from that and through post punk and punk influenced by metal and/or indie it became at times more technical itself, though still maintained that essential energy
perhaps the dude doesnt like any of the og punk which is fine but i dont think singling out the ramones in this is fair

maybe later punk releases Artuma, the earliest bands weren't varying themselves, I mean compared to the Sex Pistols the Ramones are exceptional musicians, not till the early 80's really did the newer punk bands add more changes and musicianship, the earliest bands thought that was selling out for success

yeah i was talking about punk as a whole, not just the 70s stuff

including the clash here is pretty funny Bubs, I would not think them punk at al actually, they are kind of post punk glam, or new wave, way too fashion conscious, and there sound is not punk at all, I would say the Cars are more punk then the Clash

kind of, they never did it for me, yes those are more punk, but man did they go south quick, The whole only band that matters thing just strikes me as funny, the only album I can get somewhat through is Combat Rock, but that is new wave, and very uneven, cannot stand london calling.

i love london calling. i think its a great instance of a band pushing their own boundaries and experimenting to create something truly magnificent. i think the clash's first two albums were very much punk records, and interesting ones at that, with more energy, better lyrics, and stronger instrumentation than the other punk bands. i also like the dual vocals.

I understand the points that you, who opposed my comment, are trying to make. That's the beauty of music. We don't all have to like the same kinds. I grew up in the 90's era. When I first started listening to music, I started with bands like Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and bands of that nature. It's kind of hard to appreciate a band such as Ramones because I was able to play a few of their songs and master them on the guitar in the matter of hours. I can imagine that mastering a Hendrix song would take weeks/months to master. That's why I made that comment. I feel like bands like Pink Floyd are run off of pure imagination and experimentation. Ramones lack this and that's just my point of view.

music should not be judged on complexity alone, some of the best songs ever written can be learned in a matter of minutes. That does not make it a lesser song, only easier to learn, Look at Smoke on the Water, I dont hear anybody dissing that for being easy to learn. The ramones get a bad rap for multiple reasons all of them true to some extent. HOWEVER, it does not mean that they not a great band, I look at them kind of like motorhead, their attitude makes them. How can anybody deny the affect Beat On the Brat has the first time.
