Love this album. I know a lot of people prefer the more raw power trio Rush. But I love the moods/textures they created and I thought the songwriting/arranging were at a high level in this time frame

Even though Signals was a big shift in their sound, I still liked it for its analog warmth. GUP was their first album without Terry Brown at the production helm and I noticed the difference immediately. I got off the Rush bandwagon with this album. Years later, I've come to terms with the synth era and now like GUP, Power Windows and Hold Your Fire in varying degrees (because I consider later albums like Presto, Roll the Bones and Counterparts to be absolute dreck). To my ears GUP doesn't have any "great" songs, but it is a collection of "good" songs. There's nothing here that I want to skip over, which I can't say for a lot of later Rush albums.

Yes it's much colder. I also prefer the warmer sound on Signals. This is a very bleak and cold album though and the production sort of fits that.

Kinda sad, the reviewer got Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga among his favorite bands

As well as Corrupted and Lightning Bolt. You can't judge me on a mere two pop artists, you silly goose :3

Now now, don't judge based on two artists. Plus Swift isn't even too high in his ratings

I always say it's good to be able to go from stuff like Bjork to to stuff like Nile

Bjork should collaborate on a Nile record just for shits and giggles. I'm kinda curious to find out how that sounds, lol
