Yeah, if you can make it here you can make it anywhere.

Yah really. Might be travelling across seas to do some teaching in Asia sometime in the coming months, but not until I see Yes play live in Ohio come July.

Do you frequent any bars? If so, I've probably run into you.

I have a friend that's been pushing me to get out of here for a year now and I think I'm finally ready for it. I have a fucking fascination with the Mojave Desert area right now too, partly to blame on my Bourdain addiction/television mentor/mancrush/wicked awesomeness that's been going on for a few good months now. I swear the man is me in 30 years (with success being the variable).

I don't get out to bars very often, however, I do love beer

If it's alcoholic, I'll consume it.

well albuquerque is great. climate-wise it's completely different from michigan. no winter basically, sunshine 330 days a year, and even when it's 100 degrees in the summer it's totally bearable because there's no humidity.
you can ride your bike everywhere and there's spectacular hiking trails and what not. you're a 20-minute drive away from being in the middle of the desert with nobody around. the food is absurdly amazing and super cheap. lots of bars, a much younger population, ample jobs, and extremely affordable places for rent.
the funniest thing is that the locals our age HATE IT there, basically across the board. it's the transplants who seem to have the most fun. i was only planning on living there for a couple months, but it's my home now. definitely not a bad place to live, but the grass is always greener pretty much everywhere when you're from mid-mich.

Damn, that really sounds great. And of course the locals hate it - isn't that what makes a person a local? Haha. I'm already to the point where I want to hang up my winter coat for eternity.

the 3 or so times it lightly/briefly snowed there this winter people lost their shit. like, pulling over and turning their hazard lights on type stuff. it's hilarious.

| |
I'm sure you've heard, but we had that 'once in a century' winter and it was fucking awful. There was constant snow cover on the ground for four months. And it was an average of ten degrees below normal for the entirety of the season too.

"Do you ever take a shit, look at it, and think you may be flushing a Sputnikmusic user?
Shit happens to me all the time."
This really spoke to me. Big time deja vu

Flint, Michigan.
I don't have the first idea why but I always imagine the coffee that's served up there is the best in the world.
