I don't think the word pretentious fits this at all, pretentious would mean that the Death Grips are trying to show some deeper significance beyond the music/lyrics, which is probably not the case here

@Iron: Fair enough I am starting to see your perspective, from what I read as all good things about the album to your view are bad things and that leads to the great disconnect @_@

The narrative lyrical delivery for one makes it pretty emo in terms of creating emotional stories like a lot emo music (that I've heard) does

Their lyrics are very vague, mysterious and strange they use all sorts of abstract metaphors and refer to lesser known things to get their message across. This isn't straight rapping or telling some thug story this is nowhere near how a normal person would communicate this is one mind boggling passage after another that makes you think 'wtf did that just mean?' I'd like to think it is somewhat of a comparable approach to system of a down in some ways.

"Abraxas hydroplane, massive"

rap genius description: Abraxas is an Egyptian God and demon and Death Grips' MC is Abraxas as he loses control of his car (hydroplane) and endangers lives. The car is a symbol of his flow as well, meaning he’s out of control.

this is pretty damn pretentious for example

I think that is more or less a gimmick than a form of pretension, but idk
