@ JWT, I had no clue how the mainstream scene saw chiodos during the illuminaudio era; my only reference was the critical acclaim the album recieved on this site, and how my friends around me viewed the album.

I loved the old chiodos stuff and liked Illuminaudio, but this is bad. Horrible overcompressed mix, bland songwriting. Craig's not using his vocal range and Thomas isn't using his guitar chops. Those things would be forgivable if the songs were good, but they sound so generic and bland that I could listen to this album and you could tell me another band wrote it, and I would believe it.

It's so hard to imagine that a changing frontman can make the difference between writing an amazing album like Illuminaudio and putting together all of their other shit I can't even get through listening, which is the reason I can't rate it on a fair base.

Only good album these guys put out was with Bolmer as the lead singer. Feels like Craig is keeping them back from doing some interesting things with their sound

Yeah, it feels weird to wish that the original singer of band would not come back but there's no arguing Illuminaudio kills this with one finger and might be the only listenable (because great) album of the band.

Illuminaudio is also the only album worth coming back. This record has grown off me so hard that its not even funny. Its okay, but its nowhere near the quality of illuminaudio

Coming from somebody who personally didn't mind the band's first two full-length albums, this is really bad; not "apocalypse bad", just quite terrible. Craig Owens' vocals showing an improvement isn't necessarily a good thing when the strength of the musicianship is lacking in places. Combine this with blatantly uninspired composition choices and laughable lyricism (i.e. "I love your touch in a hateful kind of way"), and we've got ourselves a mess of an offering here.

However, whilst I don't particularly like Devil, Expensive Conversations in Cheap Motels is actually a good song alongside Why the Munsters Matter. And barring the chorus, Under Your Halo's fairly decent.

I'm not surprised people on here didn't want Craig back. Having overheard the reception Illuminaudio got, I feel idiotic for not checking that out prior to this one. I'll take a looksie sooner down the road to know what I'm letting myself in for.

Yeah, you should definitely check out Illuminaudio. Great album and only one worth listening among all of the bands releases.
