Keith Levene's guitar sound and style on Public Image is absolutely seminal. I have no trouble in believing it helped shape U2's sound and thence their bloody career.
Wouldn't be surprised to learn one day PiL's early instrumentation and experimental style was an influence on avant metal bands like Voivod as well. Especially since their drummer has been seen walking around in PiL T-shirts these days.
