Atreyu just don't do it for me. A mediocre band in my opinion

Yeah it is a shame they are only a bit above average in the best cases because their guitarists are quite talented. Just goes to show that individual talent can only do so much for a band.

The problem is that individual talent needs to be supplemented by the talent around it. In the case of Atreyu, it's like they have two servings of talent that they're trying to stretch out for 17 people.

rdn008, one of the tabs at www.ultimate-guitar.com is perfectly accurate. If you want a good one, I'd suggest that, it's how I learnt it, and it sounds spot on. I think it was My Fork In The Road Your Knife In My Back Intro (ver 3).
Go to it, son

I hate this album. Atreyu died right after SNABK (which was, IMO, a good album). They're so generic and pop-like, it's impossible to decide whether this album is actually worse than "The Curse".

It has incredibly slick, polished production. The verses are generic and forgettable, while all the hooks are in the choruses, which are always sung in clean vocals. The songwriting follows the same generic verse/chorus/verse/chorus progression to make it more accessible. The lyrics are essentially the same heartbreak, whiny, wannabe bluesman angsty lyrics you often see in pop groups in the vein of Hawthorne Heights, but also contain supernatural/melodramatic motifs throughout in order to dupe people into believing that the band has their finger on the pulse of counterculture. The singles turn out to be the highlights of the entire album, as many songs on the album proper end up sounding like filler.

all these things that you listed off yeah thats great, true, but im listening to how hard their music is. They dont sound like a band many of our moms would approve of. Their guitars don't sound popish, the vocals def. doesn't sound pop-like. Clean vocals, are you talking about the screams? If they are a pop band, that is trying to make their listeners think that they are hardcore, im buying it. Sorry i had to make you do the dissapointed father talk to me. but I will never consider these guys a pop-band.

but im listening to how hard their music is.

Their music is only "hard" in the fact that it's crap. Hell, even Limp Bizkit was heavier than these guys. Black Sabbath was and still is heavier than Atreyu. The lead vocalist sounding like a dying walrus does not make a band heavy.

They dont sound like a band many of our moms would approve of.

My mom listens to Judas Priest. Another band that's heavier than Atreyu. My mother would approve of this band in that they just suck.

Were I parent, I would rather my kids listen to Death than Britney Spears. I would rather my kids listen to Mayhem than Hawthorne Heights.

Their guitars don't sound popish, the vocals def. doesn't sound pop-like.

Pop means popular. A lot of people forget that. Pop is not exclusive to trampy young ladies who lipsynch at their own concerts.

Clean vocals, are you talking about the screams?

This sentence was so disjointed I can't figure out what the hell you were trying to say.

they are a pop band, that is trying to make their listeners think that they are hardcore

Nail on the head. They're a pop-oriented metalcore band using dark, melodramatic imagery, and a gratuitous lead vocalist who sounds like crap in order to dupe adolescent rebel wannabes into believing that they are on some sort of cutting edge, that they are dangerous and defying the system.

In reality, Atreyu are about as tame, mainstream, and pop-oriented as Linkin Park, Hawthorne Heights, and My Chemical Romance.

They are nothing but self-important shills using a cliche gimmick to lasso in the money of adolescents who want to rebel against something, but they don't know how or even against what. They're just fodder for the poseurs who have ruined Hot Topic stores, and have become another one of Victory Records' darlings in their hollow, self-righteous, patently false claim that they are supporting "real" music. It is nothing but pop dressed up and masqueraded as a fabricated embassador of countercultures which in reality want nothing to do with them.

In short, yes they are pop because they are popular and they are marketed to a pop-music consuming audience who wants to feel edgy and dangerous. It's the same old bullshit that's always been there. This Message Edited On 05.06.06

All i said was that i dont see how you can think that Atreyu is pop-like. I didn't ask to be in a debate. Anyways, its seems like you don't like Atreyu because they get some media attention. Thats a bit close-minded. Yeah Iluvatar, this is just a message board... why would some1 feel stupid because some1 else told them off? Is this your life? I'll never meet you or Steerpike, props for him, he knows more than me. Although Steerpike seems like he got big headed over this. lol

You asked a question. I answered and I explained my reasoning. What difference does it make that I chose to use more sentences?

Anyways, its seems like you don't like Atreyu because they get some media attention. Thats a bit close-minded.

Pfft. Dude, I'm the one of the last people on this site you can accuse of such a thing. Take a look at some of my album ratings, reviews, and comments. If you still think I discriminate based on media attention, you're blind.

Although Steerpike seems like he got big headed over this. lol
