I've never understood why some of you put so much thought into ratings. You enjoy something or you don't, just go with a number that feels right!

"I've never understood why some of you put so much thought into ratings"

aren't you the one who writes 1000 words justifying why something is a 3.2 and not a 3.3 ???

@omni fair enough, I tend to rate classical stuff differently than modern stuff so I wasn't really sure how to approach this

i get what hes saying. that didnt bother me with the rating--although i can see why it should--as much as the issue of where classical albums fit on, say, year-end lists. because i wanted to check out albums from this year of all genres and rank them all for some reason this year but it would feel weird putting a new recording of schubert's winterreise--which i personally think is Fuckin Awesome but more than that which is a sort of stone cold classic, a canonized masterpiece. if you dont think so then just replace this with mozart or whatever--against, like, the new zomby album. like, is it fair to compare a new band's self-written on the same metric as that kinda stuff? and then i was like yolo swag

So the black squares on the album art are like the black keys on a piano.

" Not the music itself, of course, but the institution: grossly normative, capitalistic, and steeped in established, unchallenged practices, “classical” has long been code for privileged traditions and the aesthetic sensibilities to which they give rise. "

this should be 2 sentences im pretty sure
