Hardcore doesn't have a whole lot to do with emo. The scenes are kind of connected, but "emotive hardcore" is something completely different than American Football, or this band. Good review overall though, and amazing album.

Only complaint is that sometimes I think there's too much going on in the songs at once. Most of the time it works luckily. Have to have a few more listens still...

It's crazy that these guys can do both the catchy emo thing and the post-rock emo thing so well.

get rid of the vocals and you've got yourself a really nice album. this applies to most emo music. sputnik just loves vocals like this, and pop punk vocals, and post-hardcore vocals. all that overly american teenage angst sounding stuff. WHY. i just don't understand how people can tolerate someone who sounds like the singer of this band. admittedly he's tolerable on some of the songs, but on Heartbeat in the Brain (for example) it's just gross.
just trying to get this off my chest here ok sorry. i like to believe there's always at least one band in a particular genre that i can like.

lmao yeah thanks, im just trying to wrap my head around this obsession with this type of music, and this is what i get. is it so wrong for me to query this? i'm just frustrated because a lot of music i consider important (tom waits, kurt vile, david bowie, nick cave - some recent examples) goes unnoticed on this site while stuff like this and that recent pop punk album and w/e gets hyped (and loved) to oblivion.
@ilovetree
i'm guessing you're implying that i can't hate on this if i like charli xcx. fyi all i'm saying is that i don't get the vocals (i don't particularly like charli xcx's vocals either, if it makes you feel any better) on this album, and most emo vocals in general. the instrumentation is on this album is something i like.

no its ok

Dude, all of the latest albums by those artists you mentioned all have significantly more votes than this album.
