Well, maybe we have a different view what "real metal" stands for, for me its the hair metal crap, like Iron maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, Overkill and so on. For me this is laughable stuff, if you think different, your choice.
Good older metal is Cynic, Watchtower, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Voivod.
To each his own, but telling me to listen to "real metal" in a news about a post-black metal band is just pathetic...

damn this is so wrong so fucking wrong ugh

Ever thought about that there are tons of people (me included) out there that laugh at the so called "true metal" or "real metal" movement...

And I did not start this... some dude came into this post black metal review and told the people here to listen to "real metal" cuz Altar of Plagues is crap...

and yes I call Iron Maiden utter crap and love Dream Theater and Watchtower, the difference is.....Maiden plays two different songs for decades and DT and Watchtower know how to make innovative music.

I'm not questioning you for not liking them, what I'm questioning is how you can think they're hair metal. Hair metal was shit like Poison, Van Halen, Twisted Sister, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, etc.

How dare any of you make fun of Motley Crue.

Incidentally, I interviewed James Kelly a few weeks back and he said the band reject the "post black
metal" tag. It's a bit of a stupid concept to be fair, it's just atmospheric black metal.

I understand where the term comes from and why it applies to certain bands (like Alcest, Lantlos etc) but I do think it's overused a bit.

"Atmospheric black metal" is a lot more over-used from what I've seen and a helluva lot more ambiguous

than the post-BM tag, though. Post-BM actually tells you something about an artist's playing style.

it used to just describe the cascadian style, but now it's somewhat of an umbrella term

to me tho bm is inherently atmospheric which is why it's my favorite subgenre and also why it's a
silly tag
