In all seriousness, going to use that download code on Monday to give this a listen. Nice review as always Jonny, and time to listen to the s/t in anticipation.

It isn't. Casual fans will think so, obsessives will not. I think it works well for both sets though.

This is better than s/t - more depth I think. the s/t had alot of silence, which was good and

effective, but the album got old quickly. This has alot more to explore sonically, the last song

especially.

This is really fantastic, and personally I think it's a much desired progression from the first record, while it retains and at times accentuates the aspects of the first that made it so memorable. He's definitely brought the songwriting to the forefront rather than leaving them under layers of glitch and trip hop characteristics. Like, I bet if Blake took the vocal melody of Lindisfarne and put it over a nice piano track, you'd find that there's a really great, beautiful song, but on the album version, you really have to search under all of the blips and the vocoder to find something to connect with. Anyway, this record's almost like a reverse of the first - the melodies and his really sharp songwriting is more in the spotlight and the ambience and effects are more nuances than 'in your face' devices. The songs are much more memorable, too (see Voyeur, Digital Lion, Retrograde, Dlm, Overgrown). I really don't have any complaints here. It's not his opus, but you can tell it's on the horizon

Retrograde is my favorite song of the year. Gotta check the album. Didn't like his debut though.
