Finally got the LP in the mail today. Been waiting 3 years for this and my hopes couldn't be any higher. The Woodpile and State Hospital singles are both promising, but I'm hoping the record will be hiding some stronger material.

Don't worry, it is.

Is it just me, or does the record's first half minute or so sound exactly like a Perfume Genius song?
Pleased after second listen. Probably a grower. Nitrous Gas floored me pretty hard.

very solid album by all means but they've lost whatever made them special standouts on Midnight Organ Fight

couldn't have expected them to keep that though. i've found that with albums like midnight organ fight and... hospice, for instance, i prefer the follow ups because they're just so much less strained and easier to listen to even though the debut may have been my bible at some point in my life
now i don't think this is nearly as good as midnight organ fight (or winter of mixed drinks for that matter, but that's another story) but i'm happy they're still progressing

wait uh IN THE WAY IT SWAYS

You're just much more optimistic than I then apparently
Because I basically agree with all of that
The Antlers comparison is so apt, too
I just find myself less enthused with the followups
Like I can appreciate that this is good I just don't see myself listening to it all that much
oh and,
TO THE SLOW BREEEZE
still pretty proud I chose such an awesome song to make my username so many years back

honestly that was really impressive i was not anywhere near listening to jets to brazil when i joined sputnik
i don't know it just takes a certain mindset to listen to YOU'RE THE SHIT AND I'M KNEE DEEP IN IT on repeat and we all had that and i'm happy we can move past it.

idk I think this is on the same level as Organ Fight
tee hee I'm so silly

I've only listened to it once so who knows

it definitely feels more "plastic" or "artificial" or whatever else, but I think that's understandable, forgivable even, when you consider that this is their major label debut. I mean it's not like they sold out their sound so much that it's offensive. It sounds a little "mainstream" sure, but it retains that same level of genuine emotion that their other albums had, imo.

I feel like this and Winter of Mixed are pretty interchangeable
Do you get that feeling?

nooooooo I was really let down by that album. This is twice as good, easily.
I seem to be observing that there is a divide among Frightened Rabbit fans. Those that like Organ Fight best seem to be having an easy time liking this album, whereas anyone who thought WoMD was better seems to be let down by this.
I fall in with the former, clearly.

this album is okay, and i reckon it will rule live, but i really can't imagine finding all the texture and wonder i found in mixed drinks after i got over hating it initially. this is like listening to imitation frightened rabbit. overall reinforces that i love this band but only reinforces it.
and decembers traditions is rubbish
