Oceopticon sounds better. Best double-album since Somewhere Out in Land of the Free Space.

Double albums must be very well executed to succeed, they could lead to (long) disasters

Except live albums I suppose, they are something different

"precambrian was about twice as long as it should have been"
kind of like The Seer?
|

No, The Seer is the culmination of decades of growth / A new brand of hell on Earth: The feverish,
post-apocalyptic beast that took thirty years to craft.

is it really that good? i have soundtracks for the blind dl'd but couldnt really get into it

Lol. I was making fun of Sowing's review. He's like 'My first experience with Swans : 5. Even tho it's his 2nd album. Seer is good but overlong, not very well constructed, and extremely overhyped.

I think there's some inspired and rewarding material on it if you're willing to wade through mind-numbing repetition and questionable songwriting choices.

Ive heard absoultly loads about Swans, the metal magazine I get (metal hammer) gave them a 10 for one of their lives - and I dont get why it took 30 years to make...

I've read their early(er) work has more hardcore influences. Well I only know Panopticon so far, discovered it days ago and I'm glad they don't sound like that on it and the songs are slower, I love that it's so atmospheric, also the electronic sounds in the background add a lot to it.
The ambient parts I find always beautiful (as I love ambient music in general).
I also like that there are no choruses and not much singing (but when the vocals appear they're still very nice).
