I have to say, this CD is very badass. Crawling Through Knives is by far my favorite song with the nice harmonized vocals and catchy guitar part.

this cd is pretty sick, my fav's are versus terminus and our finite struggle the rest of the album is kickass to, quite a step up from their last effort

I've got to say I used to really not like this album, but it's really grown on me, Leeches and Take This Life own.

the album seems to drag out and doesent seem to change. and the song with the female vocals seems a bit... dare i say... emo?

the album also peaks at the first song...

I hope you don't dare say emo.
Admittedly, the album rarely changes pace from song to song, but I think the quality of the songwriting overcomes that.
For me, the peak is Crawl Through Knives...what a sweet, sweet song.

its true that the album doesnt vary too much in pace (title track and bedtime story excepted), but i think the band were aiming to make a straight-forward uncompromising metal album after the fan backlash caused by STYE, but without completely throwing away their experimental urges, and in those respects, id say they've succeeded.

...and whoever mentioned the dreaded emo tag, please explain why! as far as i can see, the only part of Dead End that could be described as emo would be the lyrics (and only to a small extent). If you classify songs as emo simply on lyrical merits, then several definitively "not-emo" songs could then be considered emo.

one case in point, carcass' No Love Lost:

"Ripped without emotion, your heartstrings played, snapped and severed to the tune of a tragic serenade."

to be quite honest, i think that the very word "emo" is pointless. it is short for "emotional." but surely, all true music contains emotion? whether it be anger, happiness, sadness, regret, optimism, or a million other emotions. the term "emo" is meaningless.

bottom line ---> In Flames - NOT EMO.

I just heard Cloud Connected and really liked it. What album(s) should I pick up, which are similar in style (clean and screaming vocals, I can't stand simply growling)?

Reroute To Remain. Or pick up the self-titled by Passenger, Anders' (the singer) side project. If you like Cloud Connected, you'll love Passenger.
Now go forth and rock.

i've heard "in reverse" by passenger, seemed pretty good, anyone recommend any others to download? im guessing its mainly based on the R2R STYE sound, from what iv heard ppl say?

Yep. I'd say Carnival Diaries, Just The Same, I Die Slowly, or For You. They're probably the pick of the album.
It's almost a nu-metal album, much more so than R2R, despite all the flak that album copped. Basically, all the songs have big sing-along choruses and Anders sings more than he screams. There's also a similar keyboard/electronic presence as on R2R.

If you ever get the chance to see them live, don't miss it. Sell your kidneys. Sell your dog. Sell your dog's kidneys. Then sell grandma. They juts rip the place to shreds live, without missing a note...Pinball Map turned into the craziest pit I've ever seen this side of a Hatebreed concert, and when they closed with My Sweet Shadow...goddamn. Best. Singalong. Ever.
Can't wait to see some stuff off this album in concert.
