matt skiba used to be a great lyricist when it came to fusing deadpan nihilism and dark humor with a lot of raw and down to earth emotion and self pity, and on this album that's at its peak. lyrics such as "songs sung from a falling milkman that's drinking milk instead i'm much like him" and "if columbus was wrong i'd drive straight off the edge" is comedic on the surface and the further you progress in the song you see a more deeper self hatred and they pack a lot of emotional impact. whether the songs are about a fall out with a friend (fuck you aurora), a break up (radio) or the monotony of every day life (5-3-10-4) skiba never fails to deliver memorable and emotional impact.
but what do i know they're my favorite band so of course i'm biased here
