Gene Holgan is better.

I don't really understand this review.
This album is not really bad, but I don't think most of these songs deserve a 5/5 rating. To me, only the title track and Envy Life are solid enough to earn this.
However, I can enjoy this album a lot just because of these tracks.
About the review itself, it's straight to the point, and that's good.
However, the review misses some interesting subjects, I think.

It's on my iPod to this day. Aside from slightly ropey production it's top stuff. Production makes a 3.5. Otherwise a nice fat 4

One of my favorite Testament albums. The Ritual and the new one are close seconds.

New Order remains my favourite.

The title track and Sins of Omission rule hard.

Haha, it seems you always have different favourites Willie. The Ritual is good but for me it's always been the weakest album by the classic Testament line-up. Dark Roots of Earth is a strong record though.

I think it helps to come at bands' whole discographies instead of following them from the beginning. When you do that, big changes don't seem so damning. I really like what they did with The Ritual. Especially after the lackluster Souls of Black.
