Still better than Lateralus

@RiffOClock:
By saying this doesn't deserve a positive rating you're implying that the majority of albums released nowadays doesn't deserve one.
@Baseline:
This is musically superior to Rishloo. I prefer the Rishloo singer though.

This is nowhere close to Lateralus.
And i agree about the singer on this, he really just sounds like a typical MJK wannabee. Overall the instrumentation is pretty tight though. Still can't take in that Martin Lopez used to play with Opeth, considering his hugg display of skill on this album.

This is obviously not on par with Lateralus. The musicianship is pretty impressive though. I agree about the singer.

'Just because the album cover looks similar to Tool's Lateralus doesn't mean they stole it'
they obviously stole it from somewhere, it's been kicking around the internet for ages

People are way too harsh on it here. It had a much better rating on rym last time I checked.

"Just because the album cover looks similar to Tool's Lateralus doesn't mean they stole it from them or are trying to mimic their sound"
The fact that they are mimicking Tool's sound stands alone and is obvious to anyone that has heard Tool, which is pretty much everyone. No real need for stylistically similar album artwork... but they did it anyway. Why people keep defending the band on this point bewilders me. To suggest they aren't mimicking Tool's sound is insulting to everyone's intelligence. But as I and some others have said, that's not necessarily a bad thing. If one can get past the similarity, and happens to like Tool, they'll probably enjoy this.

If I could be bothered to listen to this more than once I would probably end up giving it a 2.5 or 3.0 but I have no desire to. Nothing wrong with a little derivation. But to warrant a listen, a band needs to also DEVIATE and/or EXCEED and they just don't do either in any department.

Rishloo dies and Soen emerges as the obvious superior.

Am I the only one who also hears hints of Katatonia here? I know new Katatonia and Opeth sound pretty similar already, but still..... Night is new day seems to be all over this - not that, that is a bad thing! I did find the vocals a little weak too often, and lyrics lacked imagination far too often.

You're right, along with obvious Tool influences, this has this art rock vibe going on. It makes it similar to A Perfect Circle too. I must say the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Still, unimaginative vocals sort of ruin it (as you pointed out).

Albums gets more hate than it deserves. Yes, they sound VERY MUCH like Tool and I really wish their Tool influence was not so freakin' obvious (because I'm a huge fan of Lopez and DiGiorgio), but having Tool influence does not necessarily mean the songs they wrote are terrible. We have many Tool/Dream Theater/Opeth/Death rip-offs. It does not necessarily mean they are all bad.
