These guys had the perfect blend of hardcore and post-punk for the first 2 records. I've never heard another post punk based group get quite so aggressive and brutal, like on Count Me In. I like the little black metal influences they work in too.

songwriting is pretty basic the energy is downright goofy at times

Basic song structure is pretty standard fare for punk but I don't think the songs are basic, themselves. And what songs are goofy? Like some songs have weird no wave moments but goofy isn't the word I'd use.
