The filler still has the same vibe though, so it doesn't ruin the experience. I think there are eight or so great songs here now, it grows on you.
It's worth trimming about five tracks for everyday listening, I'll admit that

The filler fits in with the album but yeah still needs a trim

I feel about this the way people feel about The Wall
definitely has filler, but it's necessary. Would've been great if Bowie actually stuck with the story, but it is what it is
also nice dig Doof

I agree there's some filler here and there being it's a 19 track album, but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy the hell out of most of this album.

The story interludes are absolutely horrendous though. I cut them all off of the album until my computer crashed and I had to redownload it. Been too lazy since then.

nah Baby Grace, Algeria Touchshriek and Ramona Stone interludes are literally essential

Album Rating: 4.0
Ramona gets a pass for actually being a song but the others are only essential to the story (which has no bearing on my personal enjoyment) and are detrimental to the actual quality of the music presented. If this album had been shaved down to 12 or so songs, it's consistency and flow would be greatly improved.
That said, A Small Plot of Land is one of my all time Bowie favorites.
