Anybody know any exciting modern jazz artists to look out for? I haven't been listening to a lot lately and what little I have been into is mostly ancient shit.

Tbh favorites are prob Matana and really any Shabaka Hutchings project (Sons of Kemet, The Comet is Coming, Shabaka and the Ancestors)



Shabaka's the closest I've heard from a modern sax player to someone picking up that rhythmic drive where Pharoah left off, even if the music is usually much more contained in smaller band set-ups (Two drummers and a tuba for Sons of Kemet, synth and drums for Comet is Coming; although Shabaka and the Ancestors goes bigger)
