yeah obZen is definitely a very homogenous album. but its got my two favourite meshuggah songs on it so i think i listen to it more than anything else

what's your opinion on Obzen, Sound?
It's solid, as are all their studio albums since DEI. Has some of their best songs (Bleed, Dancers) but I must say it's actually the only album by them where I can't say it has its own distinct sound (not that it has to). Though, they haven't made an album that combined the older works with the newer, so I guess that statement is false ;P.
And yeah 'I' is one of their best.

I actually think the opposite. I'm not big into pre-"I" material, but to me "Obzen" makes a very effective blend of older Meshuggah with the newer approach, and that's why I like it so much, and I listen to it more than DEI or Chaosphere.
"Obzen" does have this "homogenous" sound, but overall it really doesn't matter, 'cause most of it is killer stuff.

That's what I'm saying, with obZen they made an album that didn't really add anything new but at the same time stands out among the other releases as a blend of previous styles in a more straight-forward approach.
