I think this is a fairly strong album if you enjoy morose music but too many misses to be great. It's a shame they almost totally abandoned their heavy side so there is less dynamics overall.
I feel they lost ambition with the arrangements and stuck to a safe formula of trying to write a hit every song. The majority succeed but occasionally I feel Aaron Lewis goes up and down the register trying to find a melody and it's aimless.
However i'd say a it's mostly a slick mainstream effort. Jon Wysoki is in my opinion the best drummer in the genre, he really elevates the music without ever showing off.

I really do appreciate the drum writing on most Staind songs. "Best in the genre" is a big statement but I understand what you mean.
This albums starts strong-ish but man it gets sooo boring the more you get into it.
