When all is lost. That song reminds me the book "The Passage from Justin Cronin. Don't know why, maybe it is because of the lyrics, strange coincidence...

Emotionless, are you out of your mind? The emotions ooze from songs like Dehumanized, Children of a faceless god, and the mighty when all is lost. I adore this album. At first I only like 3 or so songs, but now I love everyone. I think another full ballad would have been good on the 2 disc

I love most of this band's albums, but they are so boring live. Just Sayin'.

Michael Romeo is out to prove that he's a riff machine, I think he's proven his point. But that's not beneficial to the album, it gets very exhausting to listen to, especially the special edition. There are numerous interesting ideas but the album is bogged down by the excess riffage. Production is great, bass is too low in the mix.

Agree. This album is really tiresome almost to the point of boring. Its a shame, i consider everything from TDWOT onwards to be gold, but this one is just .. average, except for THAT song.

They started really getting into the METAL! aspect on The Odyssey I think, and never looked back sadly. A lot of the choruses are fantastic, but the rest does get tiring. Mainly 3 proggy songs, all above the 7 minute mark. And THAT song has to be the one I'm thinking of. The proggiest of them all. You know.

I didnt have a problem with the heavy-ness on The Oddysey and Paradise Lost, in fact, i like those albums a lot, because they PULL off the new direction really good.. except this one.
I only have 2 great things to say about this album: When all is lost is EPIC, and it made me realize that Twilight in Olympus isnt as bad as everyone says.

The Odyssey is aight, and Paradise Lost can get tiring and feel lackluster at times like Iconoclast. Iconoclast does have quite a few good songs though like Iconoclast, Bastards, Prometheus, Lords of Chaos, etc. And others have interesting elements, but there's too much chuggery as well.

The 15 seconds in the middle of the song are the most interesting, man the guitar tone is gorgeous and extremely rich

Paradise Lost only real CRAP track is Domination. Some others have minor flaws, but overall is a really good album, imo. It lacked a better epic, but the title track made for it. My personal SymX rank:
V
Oddysey
TDWOT
TiO-Paradise lost
Iconoclast
I have not heard their second album. Their first one SUCKS sweaty balls, the vocals are CRAPTACULAR. Sometimes Oddysey and V and Paradise Lost and TDWOT switch positions, but is mostly that order.

They are cheesy, but NOT stupidly cheese ( the reason i cant stand 90% of power metal). Rusell voice is pretty good, dynamic, and has a great range. Listen to "The Serpent Kiss" and then "Paradise lost".

I've never thought Symphony X were very cheesy compared to their genre-mates.
