I pretty much agree with the consensus here: this blows. Nice review! I hope to have mine finished soon.

I kinda see this album like Gorillaz "The Fall" ... not really as part of the band's main cannon but a decent enough listen for what it's worth. I'm actually really enjoying it though there aren't any *shivers* moments.

It still doesn't strike me as a bad album. I insist, the problem is that it's rudely underwhelming (when comparing it to their previous albums). But of course it's obviously not a great album, that's why I can't give it anything higher than a 3.

For those who have listened to Dredg since the early days you should know sometimes their best songs challenge us and it takes a few listens to understand this. For me, that's most of this album.

Is it their best album? No.

Is it bad? I'd have to say no to that as well. I really like it except for the last two tracks and even one of them is growing on me as I write this.

Dredg has never been one of those bands that you can really understand on the first listen. Why expect that now? Each album pushes the listener to a new place in a new way.

Yes, plenty of bands have gone techno or simplified their sound. But what makes this album unique is that it shows a whole other side to what they can do with music. The lyrics and Gavin's voice could alone carry the album sans instrumentation. But the instrumentation shows a melding of experimentalism in a more confined simplistic style.

In my opinion if you think this is a bad album than you've never really understood Dredg at all, only one aspect or side of them that just happens to fit into your narrow interests.

I preferred Deltron 3030 a lot more to this in terms of Dan the Automator.

Good review, man.
