Not quite a 4.5 for me yet but damn close.

This is my equal favourite release of the year. Might bump it up to a 4.5. I love when I can hop on board a hype train because the CunninLynguists one just ran me over and left me behind.

This is brilliant. Trying to think of good reasons not to bump it up to a 5. I have never been so thoroughly enchanted with a woman's voice. She sounds like the what would happen if you took Joanna Newsom, Feist, and St. Vincent (Annie, something or other) and created a hybrid with all of their best qualties. The lyrics in the slow, sad, coda of "Peachy" gives me chills, as does the entirety of "Finish Piece." Channing, thank you so much for the amazing review and bringing my attention to this incredible music.

too many records that were all supposed to be super awesome came out within like the past two weeks. that being said, this is the most awesome of them, at least so far

Anyone else heavily reminded of Regina Spektor?

I'd say lightly rather than heavily but yeah I can hear it a little.

I think it's pretty prevalent in her diction moreso than anything else, but it reeeeally sticks out

ifghtffyrdmns, which other albums were you stoked for over the past two weeks? I got Fleet Foxes' and The Antlers' new albums, both of which were great, but I was wondering if there were any I may have missed. Have you heard either of those two records? Fleet Foxes' "Helplessness Blues" is particularly excellent, and The Antlers' "Burst Apart" is sort of like an odd synthesis of "Hospice" and Radiohead's "The King of Limbs." Very atmospheric, bassy, groovy, and often a bunch of fun.

Reminds me more of Joanna Newsom, minus the harp.

I never compared her to Newsom. Obviously. The way she sings is similar to the way Regina sings, you can't really deny that (unless, of course, you're ignorant or stupid).

If you aren't hearing any Regina influence (it might be Laura has a weird accent I've never heard her speak, or it might be deliberate which I'm assuming) I'm fairly convinced you're not listening to the album closely enough. Some of her words sound really chunky (for lack of a better word) in a style the same as Regina's.
