That is NOT saxophone on The Shrine/An Argument. It is bass clarinet.
That is all.

yes, but there are a few instruments in that part I think

Love the lyrics in some of these songs. Another thing I like about Fleet Foxes is; like most great folk artists; the lyrics are worth debating about. =)

lyrics can be little lolwut at times, and I'm not entirely sure what his obsession with apples/orchards is, but I do love the random references to the renaissance that pop up every once in a while.
|

Not as odd as The Tallest Man on Earth's lyrics.
His lyrics are so abstract; I think he's doing some fishy stuff when writing them.
Obviously the orchid obsession is a personal thing for Robin. =)

tallest man lyrics are so much better than fleet foxes how dare you
|

Ah, they're very different.
Anyone could easily say The Tallest Man on Earth's lyrics are great but still have no clue what the
song is about.
They are well written but a majority of the time are far too abstract and personal.
Fleet Foxes are more like Bob Dylan in their lyrical approach. Not too simple but simplistic and
poetic enough to be argued over.
So, yeah The Tallest Man on Earth's lyrics are more whimsical, aesthetic and picturesque but they
make as much sense as conversing with a wall.

I like abstract, personal lyrics. Fleet Foxes' lyrics don't even touch TMOE. (and fyi you don't mean to say simplistic, that essentially means stupid and basically you just said "not too simple, but overly simplified to an extreme amount," sorry, pet peeve :P)

I can't help but noticed you said the avant-jazz sax playing on The Shrine/An Argument recalled Colin Stetson's work. I'm not sure if you know, but that actually is him playing on that track. He's been showing up all over the place lately.

Yeah this is a beautiful, beautiful record... probably the best of 2011 so far. "The Plains / Bitter Dancer", "Lorelai" and "Blue-Spotted Tail" are all standouts, but the gorgeous harmonies on the tail end of "Helplessness Blues" are just wonderful.

Haven't listened to this in a couple weeks. It's pretty good though, much better than their first LP imo.
