The day a Bieber review is featured is a day I never thought I'd see.

It's not a high rating soooo...... sputnik would probably feature it.

*I'm not talking about your French here, Irving. I mean generally. You know, 'sky is the limit' in all, and practicing is always the secret.

N'inquiétez pas, Jethro! =) Je comprends le (la?) sens de ta phrase completement! =)

Mais, en plus - si je réussis à devenir bilingue, il y a trois personnes que je dois remercier: mon colocataire, toi, et Céline Dion.

How do you go from a review as good as your last one to this piece of shit?

By listening to Never Say Never - The Remixes.

But, seriously - style of writing aside (the tones in my two Bieber reviews are obviously wildly different) - what do you feel makes the previous piece better than this one, Atavan? I'd very much like your input.

Haha, fair. But to be honest, I myself was doubtful about this review before I posted it - to the point that I wanted to scrap the whole thing completely. Maybe Atavan might be going through the same thought process, and I think it'd be really interesting to find out why he feels that way about this review.

If you had a moment to spare Atavan, an explanation/critique would be awesome - and I would be very grateful!

Firstly, the "letter as review" thing makes me want to punch babies.

Now, the review pretty much stinks from the get go

I'm willing to forgive the lack of originality in your work and its vomit-inducing subject material.

Really?

I'm also willing to forgive that hopeless street swagger-thing you've currently got going on

What the fuck are you talking about?

the only thing you added to the songs were people like Jaden Smith, Usher, Kanye West, and Raekwon saying "uh-huh, uh-huh, yeah!", "yo, whaddup!", and "check out my man JB!" in the background

Are we talking about the same Runaway Love remix here? The one which Yeezy produced himself and released as a part of G.O.O.D. Fridays last year?

Words fail to describe the shameless stench of commercialism that runs in the varicose ulcers of this release

Melodrama rarely works in negative reviews. You've really got to sell the humour, and it just doesn't work here.

if the world of music was the internet, and artists are websites, then Never Say Never - The Remixes is cyberspace's biggest troll. Rule #1 of dealing with a troll: don't feed it.

Oh FFS...I'm not even going to say anything about this. I really don't know what you were thinking.

Atavan: firstly, thank you. And now if you will humor me just a little more:

i.) Firstly, the "letter as review" thing makes me want to punch babies.

Haha fair. I recall you having said the same thing to Knott before, and I was expecting that the review's format wouldn't go down well at all with you.

ii.) I actually agree with you on the first two things (vomit-inducing; street-swagger); if I had any credibility/objectivity at all as a reviewer, I wouldn't have included them in there. Worse, I even contradict my old review, as you undoubtedly noticed.

iii.) I'm not familiar with this remix you speak of and can't corroborate whether we're talking about the same album or not. Can you link me to the relevant track? (if you have time, that is)

iv.) I had to google the meaning of "melodrama"...which goes a long way towards telling you how inexperienced I am in using it. Criticism noted.

v.) Cyberspace troll analogy - I don't know what I was thinking either. I just wanted to deliver the "don't buy this CD" line (as if anyone on this site would) in a different way.

-

Now, this is what I think about this review: it sacrifices a lot of objectivity in favor of being appealing to a target audience (Sputnik). Although I feel like I hit on some very valid points throughout (e.g Jaden Smith re-release, manufactured live performance of "Overboard"), they get lost in my fervor to create a "fun" piece. This review honestly wouldn't work anywhere else, and I won't pretend that I expected it to. This is where this review ultimately differs from my other pieces - say, James Blunt's Some Kind of Trouble (if you can recall that one) - which I feel might stand a chance in the "real" world (as if I know anything about real world reviewing - LOL).

In short, this piece takes advantage of the existence of an online society on Sputnik, and then actively tries to entertain it. In that respect it succeeded; beyond that = neg.
