You know, it is feeling like a Man Ray kind of night rn

"man Feeling Gravitys Pull is somethin else. their best opener maybe"
besides the GOAT tune "radio free europe" i'm inclined to agree
in fact this is probably their best full length besides "murmur." took me a while to come around to it but this is a great combo of their classic IRS sound plus some experimentation. rulez

its not like terrible or anything but everything else here is like 5 worthy imo so it sticks out. doesnt particularly help that good advices/wendell gee is one of my fav closing combos they have

gonna be a pretty specific moment to highlight but buck switching up the rhythm of his strumming every 3 bars or so in kohoutek has become one of my fav moments across the discog. feels so satisfying every time it rolls around

As much as I’ve loved this band for 30+ years I still haven’t quite warmed to this album. I’ve never had a physical copy of it.
Maps and Legends is bloody brilliant though.

damn this is a top 3er for me. love all the things they did on here to expand the sound of the first two albums. bar auctioneer these songs lean into this really hypnotic and/or beautiful side of the band i cant get enough of

They do have a very specific ‘aura’ about them don’t they.
80s alt guitar zing, melodies from another planet and a very present darkness.
Absolutely classic band.

I don't think the albums are classics though other than the consistent 'Murmur' and 'Automatic'. All the run between those albums have 2-3 classic tunes, 3 or 4 good 'uns, then a bit of filler - for me at least.
I guess 'Document' is maybe the next most consistent...then 'LRP'? 'Reckoning' I feel really pales in comparison with 'Murmur'...at least this one is starting to stretch out and be different.
'Green' and 'Out of Time' are quite strange 'full albums'.
Loads of classic tracks overall though, they were just knocking out albums at a rate of knots - probably a bit too quickly.

Been listening to this band so much the last two weeks - even listened to the last three albums again :/

I kind of agree with Doof except the chasm between Murmur and Automatic (which I'll give you is consistent--just think they got really corny, and had flashes of that prior)
But I do have to revisit this band. Kinda agree with the "pumped out one or two too many albums" diagnosis even if that prob seems unimaginably silly to fans

I think 'Automatic' might be their only album to have a stronger Side B to A though and I like that about it.
All the 80s albums have that old style front loading approach going on to some degree.

Reckoning is an absolute belter Doof, it’s not as good as Murmur but it still carries the quality and excitement.
Later on albums pale in comparison but they still have all timers on them.
E-Bow the letter and Electrolite are stunners from a trudger

'Reckoning' for me is 'Murmur continued' only I like about six songs on 'Murmur' more than ANY song on 'Reckoning'.
It's still good though, but I prefer 'LRP' and 'Document' which have quite distinct styles.
The one I never really listen to of their early(ish) albums is 'Green'
'E-Bow the letter and Electrolite are stunners from a trudger'
Agreed, that album has gone down a bit in my estimations - 'Leave' is enjoyable too despite the car alarm
