This is easily the best example of black metal with post-rock and shoegaze influences

"Completely irrelevant."

It's not irrelevant that this band is simply not good. Seriously there is no reason to listen to
these guys over 2nd or even 3rd tier black metal.

I think Lunn would be honored at your thinking he was more than one person. I know I would be; it speaks volumes about his musical ability.

His s/t will always rule my world.

Re-listened to this recently. Totally agree.

I really dig the alternative influences on this album, I think they make it one of the better shoegaze influenced black metal albums to come out ever really.

I still think this and Collapse are my favorites.

But then again, I'm a sucker for the kinds of influences he's been incorporating.

Clearly one of the most missappreciated panopticon album. As you all said the diverse influences displayed are well incorporated and really elevates the emotional power of the record

That 3 min switch in Living in the Valley of the Shadow of Death is ridiculously good

Man this is a beauty

Much more morose and elegant than one would expect from earlier Panopticon imo

i would just like to reiterate that while overtly post-rock/shoegaze-y panopticon material is weaker than when he uses those styles as embellishments instead of the main focus, his post-rock/shoegze stuff >>>>>> most other bands that do it full time
