Bias aside, the atmosphere on this is just unlike anything else in his catalogue. He is at a crossroads between acknowledging that he has lost his youth once and for all and realizing that the old guard is either dead, dying or irrelevant. It's an uphill battle that he cannot lose nor win.

love Dollar Days too, that one's up there.
The atmosphere is great yeah. It's too bad that he didn't tour again only two years after this came out. Reality was more light-hearted, but the more reflective, melancholic tone here comes back in new ways in the ballads on The Next Day and Blackstar. His illness on the Reality tour really seemed to make him more private and reclusive.

Considering he had a kid to look after, him retiring was for the best. Although a comeback was all but certain... when was a whole 'nother deal entirely.

I was watching yesterday a youtuber making a tier list of Bowie and he put this album as one of his worsts.
I gave up in continuing watching his stream.
