Awake? is definitely their most accessible and melodic, but it's still quality Zao. And yeah, agreed with Jokine. Pretty much any album, save Splinter and the original All Else Failed, is a good follow up to this one. Those two are mainly appreciated best to see what Zao came from if you like the rest of their material. Still solid albums, but a much different direction.

It's a great album all its own, but within Zao's impressive discography, it sounds primitive. Of course, it IS, but I know I appreciated it far more after I became a huge fan and wanted to see their more hardcore-oriented roots.

I still find myself torn between this, Blood, and Funeral as their best.

I like relatively non-processed cleans, so they don't bother me. I like hearing the imperfections in someone's voice (as long as it isn't godawful) as it makes it feel more genuine to me.

this and blood and fire are just pure classics and its really cool to listen to blood and fire and then listen to this and see how they progressed over so little time

I love them. Psalm of The City of the Dead, with the piano solo and choir of kids singing is amazing on funeral. Probably their best closer, but Last Time For Everything, and Man in Cage Jack Wilson.

Best band ever. I ordered all else failed remake, along with a few other cd's on amazon. Pumped the most for Zao, even though its probably their "worst" (still 3.5). But Zao is Zao, and I will put effort into finding the original all else failed, which I here is the most challenging to obtain.
