My favourite dream theater album Overall. Images and words was immense but awake had that little extra something that made it a truly special album to listen to. Strong opener and some extremely heavy songs aren't just what this album is made up of. You also get two sprawling epics and a nice little semi-ballad to round things off nicely. And this album,if anything, is proof they don't always need to make mammoth sized songs to justify their popularity worldwide. Classicm/

The fuck is with all of this DT hate? To those earlier in the thread, Awake, Images & Words, Scenes From a Memory and Six Degrees are all absolutely amazing progmetal. Octavarium is pretty great as well. This might be my favorite release by them because I love the atmosphere so goddamn much.

Almost forgot about A Change of Seasons-that song is beautiful. And yeah, admittedly their newer stuff hasn't been too fantastic, but the 90s/early 2000 era of DT rules.
