Yeah dude me too, then they went all cheesy keyboard on us. Now I just keep listening to Blue Sky Noise and Planet of Ice repeatedly.

@Knott-

Why do you say it's unsubstantial? I know it was rushed, but I think I bring up some valid points.

Definitely enjoying the album, but I'm also really liking the new Circa Survive album, Blue Sky Noise. Did you guys pick that up yet? It's different but enjoyable, I've been listening here: myspace.com/circasurvive

While Omni isn't their best, it's still a great fun summer album only MTB is able to produce. I'll spin it every time the sun comes out.

blah i only read it three times but

the summary is so generic it tells me pretty much nothing about the album except that you think it's at least 'good' (i know the rating is meant to assist it but i have a thing about 'standard' summaries)

the first paragraph is basically history, with a reasonable amount of hyperbole to boot; you use words like perfectly and masterful and it starts the review off a bit fanboy-ish. the way you end it makes the first paragraph sum up to something close to: "guys, MTB are amazing, BUT WILL THEIR NEW ONE BE?" and we already know the rating so it's hardly a question to get excited about.

"Perhaps "OMNI"'s greatest strength and weakness is its utilization of synth to keep the song flowing at a steady pace." - this is a strangely specific thing to be a) the first thing you mention and b) the album's greatest strength and weakness. i haven't heard the album but if it's indeed true you need to explain what you mean by it straight away, or at least elaborate - the way you immediately go off on a tangent makes the point fall flat, and if it's a genuine point then it's too important for that to happen. i know you go on to mention the prominence of the synth in a few tracks but the overall point - how its presence in aiding songs' steady flows is both a positive and a negative - isn't really explained.

third paragraph is very good, just a bit awkward at the start - you've only mentioned the vocalist once, and it was half a paragraph ago, so it seems a bit forced to say "speaking of..." - there's nothing wrong with just saying "Jake Snyder returns..."

sentences like "while it can work in some cases" need to be developed a bit more or left out entirely - probably the latter - since it's not clear whether you mean it works sometimes on the album, or it works sometimes IN MUSIC as a whole.

dont get me wrong the reviews tells me a fair amount about the album and in that regard it's not 'unsubstantial' but it feels like your wording is sometimes a bit clunky - the last sentence of the third paragraph, for example. and the first and last paragraphs are essentially pointless, no offence; they both skip through unexplained and sometimes unimportant MASSIVE praise of the band and then end with a statement that kind of says, "OMNI is pretty much that, but for some reason only a 4."

Thanks for the thorough critique dude. Not many people put that much effort into helping and I really appreciate it. I'll definitely keep it in mind for my next review.

no worries. your writing is good, at its core, just needs twisting about and pruning a bit to make it an engaging and concise review.

sputnik has been so negative lately ahhah, everybody has way too high of expectations on this site, this is no lower than a 3.5 for any fan, sure it's not POI (yet), that doesn't mean it sucks, it just means it's not as good.

same for kayo dot

Who's even bitching? I come here to discuss music, and if I want to talk about being disappointed by an album, that's bitching? I'm not telling the users who like this to stop saying it's awesome, because that would be retarded. So is telling me not to comment just because I don't love this.
