i hear he had severe severe depression and you can see it in his recent interviews now that he's lost weight and making good music again. he said it came in bursts all throughout life when his "bullshit meter" would go off he'd become suicidal. the dark irony is that he credits it for being able to write some of his best lyrics. nice little double edge sword.
