A little long after, but for what its worth this was an excellent review, very much enjoyed reading it while listening to the album.
Thanks!

this is slowly becoming my favorite zep album. I have a hard time believing that I like it better than IV, but it's getting real close.

"Kashmir > any btbam song"
hard to compare with BTBAM but still wrong, though Kashmir is a masterpiece
not a 5 and not their best album by the way

IMHO, "Kashmir" is the song that save this supposed to be blues-rock album.
I will be burnt at the stake for saying this, i suppose.

Way overrated. When this double record album was released I listened to it from start to finish and although I was a huge Zeppelin fan it was disappointing. Jimmy Page's guitar tone on Physical Graffiti is frankly gutless, probably a result of his heroin addiction at the time. I saw them live on this tour and they were not as good as during the Houses of the Holy tour. The energy level was clearly a couple notches down from their early days. Anyone who gives this album a high rating probably never saw LZ anywhere near their peak. Quite sad, actually.

The first half of this double album is fantastic with songs like kashmir and the rover. However the second half lacks in some areas like down by the seaside and black country woman a little weak in my book but wonton song and ten years gone is quite catchy and heavy in more ways than one.

Great review first off, you were able to communicate very clearly how epic Physical Graffiti is. It's my favorite Led Zeppelin album as well. My only gripe is that i was pretty shocked you felt In The Light was poor. To me, it's one of the most impressive Zeppelin recordings. As Plant said, "In the Light is Zeppelin at its best." It's a beautiful song and one of my personal favorites. I was rather stunned you didn't think highly of it. I do agree with about Ten Years Gone, the end of the song has the "end of the world" sound to it, something special indeed.

lol Night Flight...Once upon a time...
I still remember in teenage when I heard and heard and heard again that song fading out while I prepared myself to cover the immediate next song 'The Wanton Song' on drums. Unforgettable jammings YEAH!!
