Maybe I'm forgiving its flaws a bit because (in contrast) I was feeling this, which is odd seeing as I thought I'd burned myself out on these hyper-emotional things years ago.
Have another go at this, definitely.

Lol, better... right. The only thing I like more than this is Tabula Rasa.

Stravinsky is better than Gorecki yeah, I still love love love this piece of music though.

not worth comparing directly like that when gorecki is completely different to those two...
but if we are playing this game then schoenberg, webern, berg, feldman and bartok are probably the finest you will find, and arvo part i have to say is one of the most overrated.
riffoclock you should check out some morton feldman if you havent already.

Steve Reich isn't overrated by any standards. Stockhausen, however, fucking blows

saying my opinion is based on misunderstanding is a lazy retort.
he just isnt that interesting to be honest, even if its all quite listenable.

stockhausen has his moments, but again, wildly different composer.
penderecki was a composer to watch, til he retreated to quasi-tonal pastures. threnody is legendary, but his later material never even approached such greatness.

and on the note of overrated composers, i think its interesting that more often than not, its the minimalist composers that get called out... perhaps because of accessibility? anyway, most who have made a name for themselves have something worth listening to.

....I like Chopin

isnt all music really about the mood/atmosphere/vibe though? i would say especially so in classical music from about 1840 onwards
there is nothing wrong with simplicity, sparsity or repetition, its just that some do it better than others.

Chopin rules Aids what's the deal

well being better is really just preference (refer to recent thread involving long-winded argument about the question of objectivity), but mood etc definitely has more of an effect in minimalism, or greater bearing on the quality of music. its all about style when you compare most composers, no matter how similar they may seem.
the subtlety and intrigue in feldmans music, as well as the chromaticism (i gravitate towards atonal works mostly), really grab me more than any composer, minimal or otherwise.

i would say that i have a wide-eyed interest, specifically in the twentieth-century period, but the depth of my knowledge is still questionable. still, i study, discuss and listen as much as possible.

Someone who knows what they're talking about and isn't a dick about it? Damn, this is confusing.
Feldman sounds interesting, any particular piece I should dive into first?

"Chopin rules Aids what's the deal"
the joke was that they were talking about modern classical which I know very little about so I named my favourite old-school classical composer like a dumb-ass
it's not funny when you have to explain it though. oh well, I tried.
