This is everything I've ever wanted from a Sufjan Stevens album but never quite got.

Prime indie folk, for sure.

Jordaan Mason's got a ton of solo work too, but I've put it off for years. There's a good chance there's a 5.0 classic in there somewhere.

This is one of those rare albums that somehow strikes a near-perfect balance of various things to which I'm typically very allergic. The nasally delivery, the overtly sexual subject matter, the general poeticism, the (mostly) pared-down folkiness. Any one of those knobs gets turned too high and I'm out. But this. I can't pinpoint precisely what (yet) but there's something about this that's almost painfully genuine.
