I know a lot of people don't like this, but I really enjoy it... maybe my taste in death metal is just messed-up.

This is one of the strangest albums ever. It is a very unique album though and I have yet to hear anything like it.
Pestilence evolved with every release beginning with aggressive thrash transitioning to technical death metal. The only reminiscent of death metal on this album is the vocals.
This album is all about the atmosphere. The album art is very fitting as listening to the album is like a journey through space with many turns.
The album kicks off with Mind Reflections which lays out the mood for the entire album. The track begins off with a great riff and then your hit in the face with bass and guitar synth.
One of the interesting aspects of this album is those guitar synthesizers which give it a very different sound compared to technical bands like Atheist. The synth is very fitting on this record adding melody and giving the album that spacey sound.
Marco's drumming on this record is much better than the last three releases. I say this style suits him much better than straight death metal. His footwork and fills on this album are excellent.
Now this album is not without it's faults... The huge downer on this album comes down to one thing... production.
Patrick Mameli proved to be a decent replacement for Martin Van Drunen on the previous release, but on this album the vocal style does not fit. The main issue is they are mixed way too high.
Sadly the overall sound isn't good enough to capture what this album is about. The rhythm guitar is very out of place at times. It didn't sound strong on the last release and it sounds even worse here.
My favorite track of the album is Personal Energy which captures the whole mood of the album. The track is very mellow with clean guitars and tasteful synth. It's like taken a journey through the galaxies and deep reaches of space. The vocals on this track are cleaner and also mixed better.
This album is not a first easy listening experience. If your a fan of bands like Cynic then this is worth a listen. If your a fan of Testimony Of The Ancients you may or may not like this.
Sadly this would be the last good release by this band.
