People who hate DT should be shot. How can you say that they are an abominate to music? I say that to my friend Clay who hates DT?

I'm trying to get in to Dream Theater, so I'm probably going to get this or Awake (I hear thats there other best album.) Anyways, I'm looking forward to hearing it.

Hmm... The bassline in the intro to "Home" sounds remarkabley like "46 & 2" by tool. Amazing album.

Also, quite a few riffs sound like a few riffs on "Metropolis pt.1".This Message Edited On 07.29.05

I'm not a huge fan of DT, but I acknowledge that they are amazing musicians. Along with Scruples, LaBrie's voice to me is incredibly agitating. But Dance of Eternity makes me feel worthless as a musician.

INCREDIBLY EFFING AMAZING ALBUM!!!

*ahem*

But seriously, to get the feel of the album you have to listen to all the tracks at once in sequence. The story is really amazing and deep. I was infinitely happy that I picked up this album. A++.

I've given this another couple listens and I think I was a bit harsh on it. It deserves maybe a 3.5.

Petrucci hardly takes a back seat in the Dance Of Eternity. He doesn't have AS big a role as other DT songs but he's still playing up front and does some awesome things.

^^^^I dunno. The dudes that impress me the most in this band are John Myung, The keyboardest dude and Mike Portnoy. Petrucci and Labrie don't seem THAT amazing but are still proabbly very good musicians.

Well, Beyond This Life is the best song ever.

Tied with This Godless Endeavor, anyway.

I don't ask you to back up why you like Dream Theater, you've done that plenty well in your review. Just remember, it doesn't mean I'm closed minded or dumb because I don't like Dream Theater. I just find this album to be extremely processed, repetitive, and overall, frankly, completely devoid of any meaning or emotion whatsoever. LeBrie's vocals are so painful at times ("Strange DejaVu") that his lyrics lose any emotion they once carried. As theater theorist Kristin Linklater once said, "let the words have their own meaning", and Dream Theater could not be farther from this. Their complete devotion to technical wankery and "perfect" music has destroyed any connection they once had with their music, and in turn destroyed all emotion and meaning in their songs.

I could have not put it better myself. Well said, BirdsOfFires, you hit the nail right on the head.

The one word that defines Dream Theater is: cheesy.

Mike Portnoy is an awesome drummer.

Petrucci is a talented musician, but untalented song and lyric writer

James Labrie sucks at singing.

John Myung is a talented bassist.

I can't really comment on the keyboard dude, but that keyboard solo he does on live at Budokan is awesome.

I lawl when I watch Japanese people headbang on Live at Budokan, it's the hilarioust thing ever.

That 'keyboard dude' owns you.

"Hilarioust." Hahaha, I laugh at your feeble attempt at English.

I used to think this album was poo, but a few days ago I realized it's actually fairly good. Yup.

As much as I love Dream Theater's instrumentals. I cannot stand the singer :/

That's why the instrumentals are my favorite songs.

I have a dvd of Mike Portnoy's. My respect for him is remarkable. He is a truly talented musician. I've seen John Myung play too and he is amazing. They are all incredibly gifted musicians, except for the singer in my opinion. This should be accepted by everyone. However, their technical skill has nothing to do with the creative quality of their music as I see it. I cannot enjoy listening to Dream Theater, because of the terrible vocals and all the godawful flowery solos. This Message Edited On 10.29.05

You can't deny they've written at least some good music in their career. I don't think the vocals are too terrible either, except maybe on Awake (although it's my favourite).

I don't like Awake, with the exception of "The Mirror."
