This really is s/a at their best. For me, even on IDOTG it seemed more like the Max Bemis show than the entire band as a whole, and they finally feel like an entire band working off of each other to make some great music. its an iffy five obviously being that it just came out but im sure itll work its way to the top of the heap after a couple months of listening.

Really? I feel sorta the opposite here, like this record has Bemis' voice and authority stamped ALL over it, while the music itself has sorta had to craft itself around his voice and not given the space it's had in their earlier stuff.

Same, i think this record feels more like "the max bemis show" more than any of em. You probably got your initial impression from the fact that most of the songs are alot less auto biographical and the songs are just alot less self centered overall.

I love this album, but not as much as ...Is a Real Boy.

It is really catchy, too. I have pretty much the whole album stuck in my head on a daily basis.

...Is a Real Boy > Say Anything > In Defense of the Genre

In my opinion.

The first one is about 9 million times better. But this is still good.

Thanks- and I've never heard of The Sleeping, but I may have to check them out considering Bemis is the shit.

This is false.

And yeah The Sleeping is great but their last album was pretty weak.

The more I listen to this the more I like it - it still doesn't hold up to Defense or Boy, but it's still damn awesome.

It really only can get SO good for some people I think... as they have that unsurmountable personal connection with IARB, which is a shame in some ways, because I think this is just as good...
... and to be honest I think a few months from now this will probably be in the same ranks as Say Anything's others, if it isn't already.
