This album takes me away. Front to back, I leave it on and it zones me out. Excelllenttt work.

Great album, reminds me of Syd Barret-era Floyd mixed with early Of Montreal in a way.

Is the album cover a naked guy or a candlestick :S
|
| |
it's a candlestick
|
| |
am I the only one who sees the naked guy... I must be subconciously gay or something

how the fuck do you see a candlestick there alex

I WAS JOKIN MAN
i wasnt sure if that other dude was kiddin tho
edit: also from walkabout to quick canal is an awesome section of songs
|
| |
I see the dude more but sometimes in a weird way it looked like a candlestick.

why do people like this so much more than the first atlas sound which is just as good if not marginally better
|
| |
this one is a lot better imo, more focused, there were some good tracks on the first one and the ideas he was trying to execute would have been awesome if pulled off correctly, but a lot of it just sounded half assed to me. this is much better songwriting

i thought i'd like his solo stuff a lot since i expected the mix of pop/ambient that is offered by cryptograms. i dunno, maybe i should check out his other album
|
| |
in other news the untitled jam i posted on page 1 seems to be gaining relative hype and momentum. hope to see it on a record or something
i do kind of feel like this is a singles album, or at least one that's a wee bit inconsistent. i feel like Walkabout to Quick Canal is a stretch of awesome, but i cant really be bothered to listen to the rest

planewreck, i can dig that. he acknowledged that this album was really about expanding his lyrics outside of the ultrapersonal realm, within which the lyrics to let the blind clearly existed. im not much of lyrics guy, cox's in particular have never wowed me so I prefer this album, with its dynamic songwriting and pop influences, as opposed to let the blind, which is just kinda tedious and overbearing to me at some points. I love 'river card' though, one of his best songs for sure, and I dig 'ativan,' 'cold as ice' and 'recent bedroom' too. I feel like on those tracks, he accomplishes what he wants to do, which is like hazy bedroom lo-fi but on a slightly bigger budget. 'Recent Bedroom' has the great strained vocals, awesome fuzzy guitars, etc. but again, the rest of the album is trying to do the whole loop based, shoegaze-esque thing but i dont dig.
